Creating a Practice Story

When you read the instructions in Moodle, you’ll see that I’d like you to practice creating a story before you start working on your research story.

You’ll find that it’s pretty easy when you follow the instructions linked here to set up your account. After that, you can follow these directions on writing a story.

You should be ready to go.

I’d like you to enter text, practice formatting, paste a picture, and embed media from Youtube or Twitter or some other non-copyrighted source.

The writing that you do won’t be visible to anyone else until you select “publish.” However, everything that you enter is automatically saved.

Here, quite obviously, is an example of a picture with a caption.

In this practice draft, you may include any picture you wish. It doesn’t need to connect to the text that you’re entering. Notice that if you click on the pic, you get a pop-up that allows you to change the picture’s placement on the page. Notice, too, that you can add a caption.

The same is true for video. Here, for example, is a video commemorating the annual plunge into the Seminary Pond.

You can easily highlight a something for emphasis.

Choose Large Caps.

Or small caps.

Or italics.

Experiment by selecting some text and choosing different selections from the pop-up tool bar

(note: you can copy a phrase or sentence, paste in a new line in Medium and then select the formatting you desire).

Be sure to explore all the formatting options, including the one that allows you to begin a section with a large letter or word. It’s important to notice too that you can highlight a word or a section of text in your story to create a hotlink to another webpage. You’ll want to do a lot of this in your published research story.
